ART EXHIBIT,Chennai - Chalukyan | Visual Artist

Imaginary fiction inspired by ancient mythological histories, folklore, legends and more instigate the colourful world of Chalukyan's art. Gods, demons, sages, yogis, prophets, angels and mystics all mingle with each other in a narrative of sheer bonhomie. Be it Lord Shiva or Rama, Jesus or the Buddha, they all arrive on his canvas as if they were to stop by, as an act of fate, to narrate their stories through his vivid colours. The spaces between the thought, word and deed condense onto the canvas to bring about an eclectic stylization of mythological iconography with a slight difference. The works evoke the multiplicity of the divine mythology as a metaphor for the abundance of humanity and divinity. Chalukyan’s current series ‘Tales from Heaven’ shows the maturity of narrative and the internalization of the elements and this trajectory shows a multi-layered indulgence in the process of creating his art.

ARTIST - VRUSHAKET SALASKAR

VRUSHAKET SALASKAR
Artist of the month – December 2009

“My works and my process of work are like synonyms, it is hard to tell which precedes the other. I think my paintings are not a result of a creative process but snap shots of continues creative process at different intervals of time. I have an immense interest in the study of religion and philosophy, the strange but evident applications and relations of both with the fast and chaotic socio-modern scenario which one finds today are quite interesting and can be seen in my paintings from time to time.

The juxtaposing photographic images and philosophical statements in superficially irrelevant backgrounds create a mysteries environment which sparks a conflict in the minds of the viewer. My paintings often are on subjects like complex problems raised due to the socio-political advancements, the dilemmas faced my humans while sticking a balance between the inner and outer world, the exploration of the vast landscape which lies inside every human head. The thinking process is a continues process and has no amount of deliberation, a thought is born at the subconscious level of mind and the intensity of it attracts the mind and the process begins, then the thought is built into an idea , then it gets conceptualized and then the process of visualization and composition follows, then it is brought on to a canvas, I try to put the dilemma as experienced by me and not as a statement.”

Vrushaket Salaskar has done acclaimed shows throughtout india and also international shows to his credit in Singapore and Japan. The Artist works and lives in Pune, India.

OPERA COMIQUE - if i were king

After a succession of absolutely charming songs and Virtuosos, where the musician of “Postillon of Longjumeau” has perhaps put in a lot of his genius. In discovering the musical scores of Si J'Etais Roi, one has the feeling of being before a Secret Cabinet, each drawer unfolding to us the discovery of different degrees of the music score.

On the first hearing, Adam's music seduces the ear by its elegant melody, supported by a brilliant orchestra, illustrating how he had assimilated to perfection the lessons of Boieldieu who had counseled him during his youth, to throw scholarly stodgy fugues out of the window and to learn how to write melodies. Then, on opening yet another drawer of this work, we discover Adam's humor – hidden or at least veiled in a tissue of the Orient-ironic, biting but never mean.

The question here is not one of historical reconstruction but rather an illustration, by the decor of Dominique Pichou and the lights of Geneviève Soubirou. This idea of the fairytale, of a fantasy which European Orientalism was able to develop in an imaginary interaction with India.

With its naivety and quasi unreality, which remind us the melodramatic love story with extreme decency of bollywood movies. Thus, Si J'Etais Roi offers us a grand liberty and a fantasy; the direction is presented like a Grand open Book from which engravings come out.

By the use of projectors, these ancient engravings which are reworked permit us a multiplicity of decors (many from the point of view of the fisherman's village, many the scene of a palace) and largely facilitate the problem of transport in the cadre of a tour. On the stage, other elements take on the same graphic treatment, on moving screens (some are practical like for example the throne) put in place by the actors of the scene, or even by the choir and the dancers (in the case of the engraving of war for example).

Technically, these are painted screens stapled on a chassis. The screens are wheeled and there is nothing but the chassis to reconstruct for each place (in the method of Italian tradition!).

French and Indian soloists and 80 choir singers, will be surrounded by dancers in pure Bollywood style and some traditional musicians will bring a typical ambiance between the scene and the comedy. A meeting between French music by Adolphe Adam and the traditional Indian music!

A work which has not been performed in France for 20 years, this is a musical and human adventure of such power which, thanks to the Neemrana Music Foundation and Francis Wacziarg, gives back Si J'Etais Roi to the same country in which it was imagined by Adolphe Adam and his librettists Dennery and Brésil “ (Bonjour India!”)

Jean François Vinciguerra
(Director)

Adolphe Adam

Composer
Adolphe Charles Adam was born on July 24, 1803 in Paris, France. His father was Jean Louis Adam, the acclaimed concert pianist and professor of piano at the Paris Conservatory. Adolph Adam enrolled in the Paris Conservatory against his father's will in 1817. There he studied piano, and from 1821 also studied composition under Francois Boieldieu.

Adam is credited for developing a genre of the 'opera- comique', a French opera with extended recitative, a spoken dialog, not necessarily comic. The development of such a genre was welcomed by many professional actors,

who did not possess opera-quality voices. Among his important operas are "Pierre et Catherine" (1829), "Danilowa" (1830), "Le Chalet" (1834), "Le Brasseur de preston" (1838), "Regine, ou Les Deux Nuits" (1839), "Le Rose de Peronne" (1841), "Lambert Simnel" (1843). "Richard en Palestine" (1844), "Cagliastro" (1844), "Le Toreador, ou L'Accord parfait" (1849), "La Paupee de Nuremberg" (1852), "Le Roi des Halles" (1853), 'La Muleter de Tolede" (1854), and "Falstaff" (1856), among many of his other operas.

Adolphe Adam is best known for his classic ballets "Faust" (1832), "Giselle" (1840), and "Le Corsaire" (1848). The most popular of his ballets "Giselle" was written on the plot by 'Theophile Gautier' and the libretto by Saint-Georges. During the turbulent times in the 19th century France this exquisite ballet had less publicity than it deserved and completely passed out of the European repertory. "Giselle" was revived by Sergei Diaghilev in 1910. It became the hit of the season thanks to the lavishly opulent production with the stage design by Alexandre Benois and choreography by Mikhail Fokin for "Seasons Russes" in Paris. Since it's revival by Sergei Diaghilev Giselle was performed by Anna Pavlova, Tamara Karsavina' , Galina Ulanova, Alicia Markova, Margot Fonteyn and Natalya Makarova. The role of Gizelle is one of the most sought-after roles in ballet.

Adam was elected the Member of Institute. After the death of his father, Adam was made the professor of composition ar the Paris Conservatory in 1848. He was the most important force behind the attempt of establishing a National Theatre in Paris. His effort was motivated by his idea of a venue for young composers and actors, where they could show their works to the public. During the turbulent times after the revolution of 1848 he funded the National Theatre himself. After a few seasons of financial struggles the National Theatre was closed leaving Adam in serious debt. Adam died on May 3, 1856 in Paris.

His Christmas song "Cantique de Noel" (O, Holy Night), composed in 1850, became one of the most performed and recorded piece of music.

Aspri Spirits - Launch- ‘Roberto Cavalli Vodka’ and ‘Cavalli Tenuta Degli Dei’ wine

(L-R) - Faiek Saadani Director Food Beverage JW Marriot Amrita Rao(Leading Bollywood star) Tommaso Cavalli and Sumedh Singh Mandla(CEO Aspri Spirits)

Aspri Spirits launches ultra-premium ‘Roberto Cavalli Vodka’ and ‘Cavalli Tenuta Degli Dei’ wine in India

Celebrates with an exclusive cocktail evening with ‘Tommaso Cavalli’- son of fashion designer Roberto Cavalli & the high society representatives of Mumbai

Mumbai, 25th November, 2009: Roberto Cavalli, one of the most important fashion designer worldwide renown, rocked the market of wines and spirits a few years ago with the launch of the ultra-premium Roberto Cavalli Vodka - inspired and dedicated to a sophisticated and elegant woman; the icon and eternal muse of Cavalli style. This super luxurious brand has taken its first step in India with Aspri Spirits Pvt Ltd., the leading importers and distributors of premium wines and spirits in India. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Aspri Spirits organized an exclusive cocktail evening today at JW Marriott in Juhu. Also present was Tommaso Cavalli, the son of the Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli along with the high society representatives of Mumbai. Tommaso Cavalli is responsible for Roberto Cavalli Vodka world wide expect America.

Roberto Cavalli is the first vodka to be made entirely in Italy, the country with the tradition and experience of the best distilleries. The vodka is made from the purest water of the Monta Rosa slopes, using the finest quality grains grown in the valleys where the South-Western Alps meet the river Po, and filtered through flakes of Italian Carrara marble. Using this unique production technique gives the brand its most exclusive character - sophisticated and elegant, for more discerning palates.

For many years Roberto Cavalli only shared the pleasure of this delicious ultra-premium vodka with family and friends. Famous for his busy nightlife and passion for having a good time, Roberto Cavalli later decided to open this treasure to the rest of the world.

The vodka embodies the captivating, seductive and quintessence of pure feminity, with the man himself being at the helm of the project, from inception to finish. True to the Cavalli fashion embroidering animal and natural designs, the vodka comes in a distinctive Serpentine style - a serpent coil embossed around the middle of the frosted bottle with silver snakehead spout.

Also showcased during the event was the award winning wine from the Cavalli family; Cavalli Tenuta Degli Dei, whose 25,000 bottles were recently released to the world markets, was carefully watched in the estate's cellars for three years. The wine of Tommaso and Roberto Cavalli is in fact not the fruit of a single vineyard, but rather two territories (one at Panzano in Chianti and the other in the foothills of Florence) whose characteristics complement each other: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Alicante meld perfectly, giving life to an IGT Toscana whose distinctive, well defined personality rotates around its smoothness. Like a silk dress, Cavalli Tenuta Degli Dei 2006 captures the senses, harmonizing the aromas of aromatic herbs, balsamic overtones, and fruit with balanced acidity, firm structure, velvety tannins, and an extremely long finish.

The night saw the guests experience and savor the smooth, clean taste of the refined Roberto Cavalli Vodka. Celebrities like Amrita Rao, Anita Dongre, Carol Gracias, Parvati Omanakuttan, Prahlad Kakkar, Rocky S, Tapur to name a few were seen enjoying a drink in the true Cavalli style, with elegance and sophistication.

Speaking at the celebration, Tommaso Cavalli said “We are very happy to have entered the Indian market with a strong partner like Aspri Spirits and I would like to take his opportunity to thank them for this wonderful evening that has given me the chance to meet the fascinating people of Mumbai and watch them enjoy the vodka. Roberto Cavalli Vodka is superior in quality and in taste. Having the drink means enjoying the extraordinary experience of a pleasure that is unique. The captivating and intense taste of Roberto Cavalli Vodka has received tremendous response from international markets and I am sure India will enjoy it as well.”

Speaking on the occasion of the launch of the Vodka, Sumedh Singh Mandla, CEO, Aspri Spirits said, “We are excited about this exclusive association with one of the biggest Italian names in fashion and now in spirits. The Cavalli brand makes a lifestyle statement. This vodka and wine is going to add style to our strong portfolio and we are very excited to see how Mumbaites will react to such super-premium beverages. For the fashion-conscious vodka and wine-lovers out there - what should be better than a designer tipple from Italian style icon Roberto Cavalli?”

Speaking on the tie-up, Jackie Matai, Director Aspri Spirits Pvt Ltd. said, “Roberto Cavalli exudes style and elegance from packaging itself. It is a great honor for us to have been chosen as custodian for this iconic brand. With this Aspri Sprits adds another top brand to its ultra premium brand offerings for top consumers”. He further added “Aspri Spirits will take Roberto Cavalli Vodka to other cities and will leave no stone unturned to ensure that this brand reaches vodka connoisseur and style icons in India”

The ultra-premium Roberto Cavalli Vodka priced at Rs. 9,950/- and Cavalli Tenuta Degli Dei 2006 priced at Rs. 10,990/- in Mumbai, will be solely distributed by Aspri Spirits in India and will be available at all leading Hotels, restaurants and select retail outlets across the country.

14 oz- Magazine

On 128 pages and in two languages (German and English), the newly conceived customer magazine provides the reader with a comprehensive overview of the brands and collections available at 14 oz., as well as an insight into their philosophies and history. Karl-Heinz Müller, Managing Director: “A year ago, with the opening of the 14 oz., we already published the 14 oz. Book, which was exceptionally well received by customers and brands alike. The conception of the 14 oz. Magazine represents the next logical step as an inherent part of the 14 oz. marketing strategy.”The brand features are complemented by specially produced fashion spreads shot at exceptional locations in Berlin. Karl-Heinz Müller: “Visually, the 14 oz. Magazine renders homage to Berlin: all fashion spreads were photographed at prominent hot spots of the German capital, and 14 oz. and BREAD & BUTTER employees were the models.”Karl-Heinz Müller concludes: “I am very content with the present first edition, for it reflects the 14 oz. ambition as well as its quality and value consciousness.”The 14 oz. Magazine, which in the future will be published in fall and spring respectively for the start of the season, was printed in a first print run of 10,000 copies and is available for free at 14 oz. The second edition will presumably be published in March 2010, presenting the collections for Spring/Summer 2010.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The River Yamuna is a celebrated river which is not merely a source of water, but has tremendous significance for the socio-economic, religious and cultural fabric of India. The Yamuna Walk is a simple way to demonstrate to citizens of Delhi, the drastically harmful ways in which the city, its dwellers and its industries pollute and damage a sacred river. The Walks are aimed to bring out our collective complicity in polluting the river, for citizens harm the river as much as industrial waste and toxins, and urge for the need for proactive work in this respect at personal and civic levels.
The Walk begins at Wazirabad, 5 kms upstream of Delhi at Palla Village. The river here is relatively plentiful and clean and supports a lot of different species of plants and animals.
The participants are then taken to the Najafgarh Drain, one of the 19 major drains that meet the Yamuna in Delhi.
The Yamuna Walk finally concludes with participants visiting the Kudsia Ghat, to look at the state of the river in the center of Delhi. Participants are taken on a short boat-ride on the river amidst discussion on ways each of us can help the dying Yamuna.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
In a city plagued with water problems, and in a world where water is constantly depleting, In Search of Lost Water takes you to water bodies of medieval Delhi to highlight traditional wisdom in water conservation and management.
The baolis (step-wells) of Delhi, scientifically designed to harvest rainwater and conserve it for use throughout the year, are in a state of disuse. Delhi has historically been a city with issues of water shortage, but in the present day, this problem has reached acute proportions. Can the Baolis and old reservoirs of Delhi help in solving the water problems of the city?
The baolis, besides being structures to store water and recharge the underground aquifers, were also an integral part of community life as people would gather and spend hot summer afternoons in the cool underground of the Baolis.
The walk takes you to baolis spread over the modern city of Delhi, built across the centuries by different dynasties, belonging to the different historic cities of Delhi. Why doesn’t New Delhi have its own Baolis? Why has it not kept the old baolis alive (reviving and cleaning the baolis is estimated to cost much less than what we spend on modern irrigation systems) to make sure Delhi-wallahs have more water?
We will discover lost community spaces, hear the laughter still echoing in the step-wells, eavesdrop on gossip, in search of lost water…

The Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, is a music festival taking place on June 21, which is usually the summer solstice.

The Fête de la Musique began in France and has since spread to Belgium, Britain, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Israel (in Tel-Aviv), China, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Philippines, Romania, Colombia and other countries. New York City held its first festival in 2007.

GUCCI FOR HOME

GUCCI FOR HOME: FRIDA GIANNINI DESIGNS SPECIAL EDITION T-SHIRT

Gucci is proud to announce its support for HOME, the unique cinematic environmental film directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, produced by Luc Besson and funded by Gucci parent company the PPR Group.

HOME takes an unprecedented approach in exploring the current state of the planet through aerial images filmed in more than fifty countries around the world, with the objective being the increased awareness of major environmental and social challenges facing humankind.
Yann Arthus-Bertrand said, “This movie has been inside my head for 15 years now. All that I saw and learnt while flying over the Earth has transformed me. This movie should be both magnificent and intelligent, but, above all, it should be steadfastly constructive. What is important today is that we are 6 billion intelligent beings who can take action.”

In honor of the film, Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini has designed a special, limited edition T-shirt, which will be sold in select Gucci stores worldwide and on gucci.com. Extending the message of sustainability, Giannini designed the T-shirt using 100% organic cotton and natural dyes in recyclable packaging. The design features the official HOME logo in which Giannini has integrated the iconic Gucci “GG” symbol, while the back includes the names of each country featured in the film. A white canvas bag with the HOME logo in gold accompanies the T-shirt. On sale from May 25 the T-shirt will be available in both men’s and women’s sizes, with all profits donated to Goodplanet.org, a non-profit association created by Yann Arthus-Bertrand in 2005. Frida Giannini said, “Anyone who watches this film will not fail to be deeply moved by the incredible imagery captured by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. It is a truly remarkable call to action for all us to play a part in protecting the planet for the generations to come.”
