Imaginary fiction inspired by ancient mythological histories, folklore, legends and more instigate the colourful world of Chalukyan's art. Gods, demons, sages, yogis, prophets, angels and mystics all mingle with each other in a narrative of sheer bonhomie. Be it Lord Shiva or Rama, Jesus or the Buddha, they all arrive on his canvas as if they were to stop by, as an act of fate, to narrate their stories through his vivid colours. The spaces between the thought, word and deed condense onto the canvas to bring about an eclectic stylization of mythological iconography with a slight difference. The works evoke the multiplicity of the divine mythology as a metaphor for the abundance of humanity and divinity. Chalukyan’s current series ‘Tales from Heaven’ shows the maturity of narrative and the internalization of the elements and this trajectory shows a multi-layered indulgence in the process of creating his art.
