The Sun-Drenched Nude (Photography) for FOTOFREO 2008
EXHIBITION IS A PART OF THE FOTOFREO 2008 BIENNALE From its very beginnings nude photography has been contentious and frequently identified with erotica. It is fair to say that nothing much has changed today but nude photography of both the male and female form is a primary occupation for many serious photographers, and as is the nude figure for many other artists. Gerhardt Thompson is a fine art nude photographer working strictly in black and white. He describes his subject matter as, “the beauty of the nude physique in the Australian bush and (on the) beach.” He has won over 70 awards in both open and specific categories and over 70 acceptances / honourable mentions. Thompson is also a photographic judge at www.photokonkurs.com. He is considered one of the top photographic masters of the B&W Artistic Nude. The exhibitoin consists of 32 photographs, some of which are shown here. The exhibition will also be compemented two collections of jewellery : JOY Jewellery and ADORNED Jewellery (see their individual listings on this website) PHOTOGRAPHY FLOORTALK : on Saturday 5th April at 11am at Gadfly 'Exposing the Nude" During the Exhibition Gerhardt addresses both technical and aesthetic aspects of fine art nude photography in this highly informative hour-long talk . Amateurs and professionals alike finding much of use, whilst conoisseurs will be be delighted with his vast understanding of this genre.

Camilla Loveridge - The Painted Nude@ Gadfly Gallery
CAMILLA LOVERIDGE Returns to Gadfly Gallery with a small but exquisite collection of new works , washed with subtle colur, textured with encaustic, but always enlivened by her signature use of graphic line. These are exceptionally strong and sensitive works. ARTIST’S STATEMENT Currently, I am interested in explaining cultural and political “boundaries” within the western urban environment. Since the body itself constitutes borderlines, I look to the female contour as my “vehicle” for critiquing these boundaries, particularly from a range of feminist perspectives. In my recent drawings and paintings, text is finding its way into my work, adding a new complexity or a layering of concepts and marks. With each work, not only do the marks satisfy an aesthetic or graphic function, the words double the image’s potential meaning. I hope to create more of a dialogue between the completed work and the viewer, rather than merely offering a pleasant image.

Camilla Loveridge is a Perth-based artist whose explorationof hte nude form over the last decade has seen her moved from hte strong graphic lines of charcoal on paper, to more complex woirks using a variety of media, including encaustic, acrylic and watercolour, along with her tademark use of line. This colection of six new works have been especially creadted for this exhibition at Gadfly Gallery
